God came calling one quiet day
And said, “I need you here right away.
Knowing how much you love your family
I’ll give you time before you come with me.
The time I give you will be full of pain.
That’s only so it will be easier for them.
They’ll know your pain will finally cease
And that with me, you’ll be in peace.
Be courageous and keep faith, precious one,
For I would never leave anyone.
It’s just that your work on earth is complete
And there’s a place in heaven to rest your feet.
I need you to help me make the flowers bloom,
To twinkle the stars and shine the moon,
To bring down showers from the sky
And shine the sun to make it dry.
Take time to say goodbye to those you love.
The time I give you will be enough.
When you’re tired and scared in your hours of death,
I’ll take you home with me to rest.
